White House Fever

“Born Famous,” the syndicated TV offering that profiles well-known parents and their offspring, has jumped on the election bandwagon. Producer Ava Fries has been campaigning for weeks to land George Bush and Michael Dukakis--plus families--for a special “Born Famous” doubleheader to open its second season in October (locally, on KABC-TV).

A Fries rep says Michael is a “maybe,” while Kitty and two Dukakis kiddies will be available. Some of the Bush clan are also amenable, with dad unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, Ron Smith is getting ready to launch his Bush-Dukakis lookalike contest (for both husbands and wives) Sept. 22, moving from here to 12 cities before the finals in D.C. election week.

Already, claims a publicist for the event, someone from the Dukakis campaign called to complain that Smith was publicly comparing Dukakis to . . . the Dracula-like Count on “Sesame Street!”

“We don’t know where that started,” the rep swore. “It wasn’t us!”
